Eva Katharina Masel, MD, PhD, MSc

Eva Katharina Masel, MD, PhD, MSc is head of the Clinical Division of Palliative Medicine at the Vienna General Hospital of the Medical University of Vienna and full professor of Palliative Medicine. She is specialized in Internal Medicine and completed a Master’s Degree in Palliative Care, a PhD program in Mental Health and Behavioral Medicine and qualified as a university lecturer in Palliative Medicine. She is research group leader of the Research Group Palliative Care at the Medical University of Vienna. Her research focuses on the palliative care of patients and families facing serious illnesses, on symptom management, on the treatment of psychiatric comorbidities and psychosocial aspects, and on medical humanities. She has published numerous publications and is a board member of the Austrian Association of Palliative Care and a member of national and international specialist societies.

Anna Kitta, MD, BA, MSc
Clinical Division of Palliative Care, Department of Internal Medicine I, Medical University of Vienna, Vienna, Austria

Dr. Anna Kitta is a resident physician at the Division of Palliative Medicine, Department for Internal Medicine at the Medical University of Vienna. As a qualitative researcher, her main focus is to capture patients' perspectives on and experiences of illness, end-of-life care and conversations, and doctor-patient relationships. She holds an M.Sc. in Narrative Medicine from Columbia University as well as a B.A. in Social and Cultural Anthropology from the University of Vienna. Dr. Anna Kitta is excited about improving the healthcare system by reuniting arts and medicine and strengthening Medical Humanities in German-speaking countries. With an emphasis on relationality and self-awareness, she teaches and supports medical students to be prepared for not only medical but also human responsibilities as a physician.
