From the time of the journal’s launch in 2012, Annals of Palliative Medicine was published on a quarterly basis. Following the recent notable accomplishments of Annals of Palliative Medicine, including becoming indexed in Science Citation Index Expanded (SCIE) by Clarivate Analytics in January 2019 (1) and receiving its first official impact factor in June 2019 (2), submissions to the journal have continued to significantly increase. As a result, the journal moved to a bimonthly publication cycle in September 2019.

With the increasing recognition that Annals of Palliative Medicine is a leading journal in the fields of palliative care and palliative medicine that publishes impactful original research and timely review articles in palliative medicine and palliative oncology, manuscript submissions have continued to increase further. In fact, to maintain rapid publication times in the face of this notable submission uptick, the November 2020 issue of Annals of Palliative Medicine was the most extensive issue to date, featuring 58 original research manuscripts, 7 review articles, 2 brief reports, 6 editorials or editorial commentaries, 1 study protocol, and a number of case reports and letter to the editors.

As a high-quality academic exchange platform, we are committed to publishing articles quickly to allow for impactful and potentially practice-changing research to be available to readers as soon as possible after manuscript acceptance. As such, it is with great pleasure and excitement that I inform you that Annals of Palliative Medicine will become a monthly publication beginning in January 2021. This shortened publication cycle will ensure that authors are able to continue having their work published quickly and have their research findings available to palliative care practitioners who could benefit from prompt dissemination of these findings.

Investigators are encouraged to submit all manuscript types, especially novel original research articles and high-impact reviews focused on palliative medicine across all multidisciplinary aspects, including oncology, psychology, surgery, nursing, public health, education, nutrition, sociology, ethics, and policy.

This change in publication frequency comes on the heals of several important enhancements made to Annals of Palliative Medicine in 2020—including instituting reporting guideline checklists, initiating a transparent peer review process, updated data sharing and conflict of interest policies, and partnering with Publons (3)—all designed to further enhance the content of the journal and ensure the continued growth and esteem of the journal within the palliative care community.

The recent changes in the journal, now including this important change to a monthly publication cycle, underscore the commitment of the Annals of Palliative Medicine editorial team and AME Publishing Company to further enhance the content of the journal for our authors and our readers and to ensure the continued growth and esteem of Annals of Palliative Medicine.
