Christian Junghanss, MD, PhD

Prof. Dr. Christian Junghanss is full professor for internal medicine, hematology, oncology and palliative medicine as well as director of the Dept. of Medicine, Clinic III (hematology, oncology, palliative medicine) at the university medical center Rostock (UMR), Germany. His research foci include acute lymphoblastic leukemia and palliative care of oncological patients. He received funding by the DFG (German Research Council), BMBF (Federal Ministry of Education and Research) as well as the state of Mecklenburg Vorpommern amongst others. He received his medical school training at Hannover Medical School (MHH, Germany) and the MSKCC (New York). He completed his fellowship at UMR and was awarded a two year DFG research grant 1999-2001. During that time he joined the research group of Prof. Rainer Storb (Head transplantation program, Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, Seattle). He has published >100 peer-reviewed scientific articles and book chapters and given >50 scientific lectures to national and international audiences. He is currently vice president of the East German Study Group Hematology/Oncology (OSHO), der MV-cancer society (KG-MV) as well as head of the cancer program of the UMR. He is chair of the oncology committee of the DGP (German Association for Palliative Medicine) and the palliative medicine committee of the DGHO (Deutsche Gesellschaft für Hämatologie und Medizinische Onkologie).
