Professor Dunning is the Chair in Nursing  and Director Centre for Quality and Patient Safety Research, Barwon Health Partnership School of Nursing and Midwifery Faculty of Health Deakin University, Geelong Australia.

Professor Dunning is widely published in a range of journals, books , book chapters, guidelines and position statements.

She has an international reputation for her work concerning older people with diabetes and diabetes palliative and end of life care including The McKellar Guidelines for Managing Older People with Diabetes. She has won many awards and commendations for her work. She is a past board member of the International Diabetes Federation and serves on a range of national committees.
